The Karl Polanyi Research Network

Request for Research Collaboration

I am a sociologist at Rhodes University in South Africa. I am looking for a colleague to collaborate on a joint research project involving a comparative analysis of the works of Karl Polanyi and Edward Palmer Thompson. As far as I am aware, no such comparative analysis has been attempted. The comparative analysis would by no means exclusively focus on their specific historical analyses as found in 'The Great Transformation' and 'The Making of the English Working Class'. Rather, it would involve a broader discussion of their theory and politics as found in the full breadth of their lives and works. I was hoping that two journal articles would arise from this project. If anyone  (sociologist, historian, etc)  - who is sympathetic to the writings of both Polanyi and Thompson - would be interested in collaborating on this project, please contact me (Kirk Helliker) at k.helliker@ru.ac.za.
