The centerpiece of the Karl Polanyi Institute is the Karl Polanyi Archive, the literacy legacy of Karl Polanyi. The papers are divided into three broad sections:
- The Hungary / Vienna Period: 1886-1933;
- The England Period: 1934-1946;
- and, The North America Period: 1947-1964.
This rich and vast collection of material includes unpublished papers, drafts of manuscripts, correspondence with leading thinkers of his time, outlines of projected books and notes by Karl Polanyi, papers by others (many of Karl Polanyi's students), and memorabilia. The eight principle series in the collection are:
- Writings by Karl Polanyi, 1907-1978;
- Notes by Karl Polanyi, 1919-1963;
- Lectures by Karl Polanyi, 1927-1963;
- Journal Co-existence, 1961-1966;
- Correspondence, 1898-1989;
- Articles and Papers by Others, 1898-1986;
- Biographical Information and Personal Papers;
- and, Books, 1878-1975.
You may order the Karl Polanyi Catalogue ($15 CAN). Archival material may also be ordered at a fee.
The Institute Archive is the proud recipient of a Rockefeller Foundation grant to preserve the material and update the collection.
