Local tools

Every year, a series of orientation events are held in the last week of August. These include a day on teaching-related topics organized by the Centre for Teaching and Learning Services; grant-writing workshops organized by the Office of the Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies, and a day-long New Faculty Orientation hosted by the Faculty. A sampling of the topics includes: balancing research, teaching, and service as well as expectations for tenure, including building a dossier for contract renewal and tenure, research in the Faculty and how it relates to the overall University research function, grading policies including grades and notations, outlines, evaluative exercises, promoting academic integrity and following the Academic Code of Conduct, how to manage financial issues, available funding and how to receive and properly spend it.

The Faculty also produces a Guide for New Faculty Members that is filled with useful information on topics such as getting started, guidelines for preparing the contract renewal applications and information on important policies. Download the Guide for New Faculty Members (PDF).
