The Distinguished Scholarship Awards and the Awards for Teaching Excellence, and Outstanding Academic Service consist of a certificate and a grant of $500, administered by the Office of Administrative Services, to be used for approved research or professional development expenses.
The Award for Exceptional Service to the Faculty consists of a certificate and a gift certificate in the amount of $500.
The criteria for each award and the application requirements are presented below.
The Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence recognizes superior performance in one or more areas of teaching: classroom teaching, curriculum or program development, or the advancement of teaching practice in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Nominations must be accompanied by a dossier of materials sufficient to permit assessment of claims made by the nominator. The letter of nomination must be comprehensive, clearly stating the merits of the case. An itemized list of supporting documents must also be included.
Dossiers compiled in support of a nomination for the Award for Teaching Excellence should include:
Nominations are invited from tenured or tenure-track faculty, limited- and extended-term professors, and part-time faculty, with the proviso that all nominees must have taught a total of no fewer than six course sections in the Faculty of Arts and Science in the current and previous two academic years combined. A maximum of two awards may be given in a single year.
The purpose of the Dean’s Award for Distinguished Scholarship is to recognize, reward and further motivate research excellence by identifying outstanding researchers in the Faculty of Arts and Science. There are up to six awards available, with a maximum of two awards in each of the following three categories:
Junior Scholar Award:
At the time of application, any tenure-track faculty member within five years of obtaining his/her Ph.D. degree.
Mid-career Scholar Award:
At the time of application, any faculty member in their third year or more after earning tenure at Concordia University.
Senior Scholar Award:
At the time of application, any faculty member at the rank of Professor, excluding faculty who are designated as Endowed Chairs, Research Chairs or Distinguished Professors.

The Dean’s Award for Academic Service recognizes a record of academic service, normally including components both within and outside the Faculty of Arts and Science, whose extent and quality significantly surpass accepted norms. Nominations must be accompanied by a dossier of materials sufficient to permit assessment of claims made by the nominator. The letter of nomination must be comprehensive, clearly stating the merits of the case. An itemized list of supporting documents must also be included. Dossiers compiled in support of a nomination for the Award for Academic Service must include an up-to-date and complete curriculum vitae and evidence that the nominee’s service has had a significant positive impact on the Faculty of Arts and Science. Support documentation must additionally include, but is not restricted to, letters of support and a list of the nominee’s committee and administrative work. A maximum of two awards is made in any one year.
The Dean’s Award for Exceptional Service to the Faculty recognizes a record of service to the Faculty that is demonstrably superior to that normally expected of staff members. Nominations must be accompanied by a dossier of materials sufficient to permit assessment of claims made by the nominator. The letter of nomination must be comprehensive, clearly stating the merits of the case. An itemized list of supporting documents must also be included. Dossiers compiled in support of a nomination for the Award for Exceptional Service to the Faculty must include evidence that the nominee’s service has had a significant positive impact on the Faculty of Arts and Science. Such support documentation must include, but is not restricted to, letters from faculty, staff and students from within the candidate’s department and other units. A maximum of two awards is made in any given year.
