Academic Performance Regulations provide guidelines on a student's academic standing. Based on the Last Annual GPA (Grade Point Average), calculated as of 12 credits on record, a student will either be on:
- Acceptable Standing: With a last annual GPA of 2.00 (C) or better, students can continue their studies based on their program requirements.
- Conditional Standing: With a last annual GPA of between 1.50 and 1.99, students are permitted to continue with their studies. They are, however, required to meet with a Department Advisor to discuss their academic standing and receive permission to add or make any changes to their course schedule. A last annual GPA of 2.00 or greater will be required at the next assessment in order to remain at the University. Failing this, students will be in failed standing for the first time. Students on Conditional Standing are not permitted to write Supplemental Exams.
- Failed Standing: With a last annual GPA of 0.00-1.49 (or a GPA of below 2.00 after a Conditional Standing assessment), students are in failed standing for the first time and have two (2) options:
- Take a year off from the University
- Apply for immediate readmission based on extenuating circumstances that were beyond their control.
Students readmitted must achieve Acceptable Standing at their next assessment. Should this not be achieved, the student will be in Failed Standing for a second time and will be dismissed from the university.
Students who have attempted fewer than 12 credits in an academic year will not be assessed. The grades for these credits will be included in the assessment for the following academic year.

Arts and Science Scholars
(as of January 2012)
The Arts and Science Scholars list is compiled every year after the Last Annual GPA has been calculated. Students who are identified as Arts and Science Scholars are invited by the Dean of the Faculty to an Awards Evening during the following Fall term.
For a student to be eligible to be an Arts and Science Scholar, they must meet the following criteria:
- Be registered in an Arts and Science degree program
- Complete a minimum of 12 credits in both the Fall and Winter terms within the academic year
- There is no minimum annual GPA required as the GPA is determined based on the top 1% of students in each department. Therefore the top GPAs will vary each year.
